Quick reaction to big box results:1) DIY pullback accelerating - we believe the middle-income pull-forward (discussed in our webinar), and price sensitive consumers are behind this. As expected, but not done yet. Led by 'big project', which will continue to face headwinds for the next few quarters.2) Rural stores exceeded expectations- which is not a housing cycle story as much as a shift in business mix/strategy. It's worth noting how excited CEOs are on this topic.3) Pro contractors - major focus for both retailers, as expected. Positive growth in comp was a welcome surprise, but we are unclear on what type of pro this is. Matt Samson saw this shift to LOW a few months ago in our research, and watching closely.#housing #homeimprovement #remodeling

Looking to better control your costs in 2024? If you are a hospitality operator, our message is: stop focussing on the centre of the plate and take a hard look at costs in other areas of your business. Lynx Purchasing’s managing director Rachel Dobson says many operators have taken their eye off the ball when it comes to the costs of so-called ‘evil necessities’ from cleaning products and pest control to lighting and office stationery. Back of house has become back of mind and these costs are escaping the same level of supplier and budget scrutiny that food and drink receive. “We often find businesses are being overcharged in many areas of back of house spending and for many reasons such as not using specialist suppliers, opting to buy brands over non brands or just failing to shop around,” she says. So start 2024 with a review of your back of house spending. Controlling these costs could help you improve what goes on the plate and on your bottom line.If you’d like the team at Lynx Purchasing to review your costs and help you buy better, email us at hello@lynxpurchasing.co.uk or give us a call on 01325 710143. "Why is demand so high for Industrial real estate?"The answer is simple. It's you.The consumer (you) drives demand. The more you consume (food, beverage, clothes, electronics, etc.), the greater the demand for industrial space.Unless we collectively reduce consumption (eat less, online shop less, create more ourselves), the demand for industrial real estate will not change.Want to talk about how demand is evolving? In today's marketplace, home improvement companies face a competitive landscape driven by evolving consumer expectations, technological advancements, and shifting industry trends. In this context, it is crucial for home improvement companies to have a unique offer for several reasons:1. Stand Out in a Saturated Market: The home improvement industry is saturated with numerous companies offering similar services. Having a unique offer allows a company to differentiate itself from competitors, making it easier for consumers to identify and remember the brand.2. Competitive Advantage: A unique offer provides a distinct advantage over competitors, helping a company to attract and retain customers. Whether it's exceptional customer service, innovative technology, or specialized expertise, a unique offer sets a company apart from others vying for the same customers.3. Value Proposition: In today's marketplace, consumers are looking for value beyond just the price. A unique offer allows home improvement companies to communicate their value proposition clearly, conveying what sets them apart and why they are the best choice for potential customers.4. Build Brand Loyalty: A unique offer has the potential to create strong brand loyalty. When customers perceive a company's offer as unique and valuable, they are more likely to remain loyal and advocate for the brand, leading to long-term success and sustainability.5. Adapt to Changing Consumer Preferences: With changing consumer preferences and lifestyle trends, a unique offer allows home improvement companies to stay relevant and appeal to the evolving needs of their target audience.6. Innovation and Differentiation: In a dynamic marketplace, innovation is essential for growth and sustainability. A unique offer enables companies to innovate and constantly evolve their offerings, ensuring that they remain ahead of the curve and continue to meet the changing demands of consumers.7. Attract Diverse Customer Base: A unique offer can also help home improvement companies attract a diverse customer base by appealing to different segments of the market with tailored solutions, thereby expanding their reach and market penetration. In essence, having a unique offer in today's marketplace is instrumental for home improvement companies to not only survive but thrive.
